Without business acumen, most CTOs in scaleups will be replaced in time

--

A CTO who just understands tech very deeply in one tiny expert area, without the business acumen is more likely a liability than a value amplifier for a growing scale up.

I don't mean that the cto should be someone who's just dabbed in some tech projects and has very superficial knowledge of technology.

I mean they should be able to build a prototype or at least make prototype plans that are deep enough technically that a group of engineers can work on but...

If I had to chose between someone who's a world expert at nanoparticles but had no business acumen

vs

someone who understood business and understood where nanoparticles are needed to build value for the customer,

I would chose the business minded technologist every time!

Contradict me if you think I'm wrong!
